Finding motivation can be a constant struggle when it comes to work, but it can be a little easier when you find your motivators. These are the three signs you’ve found what really keeps you moving forward.
A motivator is something that keeps you charging full steam ahead at your job when there’s work to be done. Everyone is different so they can be anything from a good challenge, to recognition, or even the obvious, like money. These are the things that keep us moving along day in and day out. If you identify what they are for you personally, Chester Elton and Adrian Gostick at Inc. suggest you can use them to sculpt your work experience. A motivator will have these three traits for you:
1. You look forward to doing it
2. You feel energized while doing it
3. When you talk about it later, you light up
Once you know what it is that motivates you, you can try to adapt your role to do more of that thing. If you like being creative, as Elton and Gostick suggest, you can try and find a way to do more of that at work and less of something that demotivates you. If you find that there are no motivators at your job, your happiness could be suffering, and it might be time to look elsewhere. Work may not ever be a candy-coated walk on the clouds, but it doesn’t have to be a terrible grind either.
